Notes

  1. The 14 December close shown is the one for mountain districts; in valley and slope districts these classes may be hunted until 31 December. The law does not list which districts count as mountain districts, so ask your district leader.
  2. Stags aged two years and older. Stags of five years and older may be shot only once half of the minimum hind quota of the district is met, and only one per ten hinds of the minimum quota.
  3. Shot under the annual shooting plan issued by the Government with minimum and maximum numbers per district; females, young animals, spikers and all ibex must be shown whole to the forester or game warden within three days (all deer and chamois too in intensive hunting areas).
  4. Spikers and yearling hinds open on 1 May, earlier than other red deer; spikers carry neither a minimum nor a maximum quota in 2026/27.
  5. The season opens on 1 May only for non-lactating females; lactating females may be hunted from 16 July.
  6. Bucks, yearling does and non-lactating does from 1 May; in several mountain districts one doe or kid must be shot before each buck.
  7. Yearlings, non-lactating does and bucks from 1 May; lactating does and kids from 16 July.
  8. In 2026/27 only one ibex buck is free per district pair (Balzers/Lawena and Malbun/Valüna), and only after a non-lactating female ibex has been shot there; one of the two bucks must be aged 1 to 3 years and the other 12 or older.
  9. Hunted all year except lactating sows; wild boar are not part of the shooting plan.
  10. Marmots 1 to 30 September within the shooting plan; in damage areas the Office may order special culls between 15 April and 15 May.
  11. Introduced species the Government has ordered licence holders to control; may be hunted all year.
  12. Young foxes may be hunted from 1 May and young badgers from 1 May to 31 December; the dates shown are for adult animals.
  13. Cocks only; the 2026/27 plan frees one cock in each of eight districts (Bargälla, Guschgfiel, Lawena, Malbun, Sass, Steg, Triesenberg, Valüna).
  14. Feral domestic pigeons; hunted from 15 October like wood pigeon and collared dove.
  15. Mallard may be hunted only away from the Rhine; waterfowl in the Rhine may be hunted only with a suitable retrieving dog.
  16. Non-breeding flocks of bachelor carrion crows may be hunted all year; all other carrion crows from 1 July.
  17. Listed as huntable game, but no hunting season is set, so the species is protected all year.
