Notes

  1. Hunting is allowed only between sunrise and sunset. Exceptions: ducks and geese from 1.5 hours before sunrise to 1.5 hours after sunset, and magpie and crows from 1 hour before sunrise to sunset.
  2. Red deer have local seasons in most of Denmark (Region Hovedstaden, Sjælland, and all of Jutland, with different dates per area; Fanø only two weekends a year). The dates shown are the general national ones; check the area map of your hunting ground before shooting.
  3. Stag classes follow the Danish law: 'kronhjort større end spidshjort' is shown as mature stag and 'kronspidshjort' (spike stag) as yearling stag. Many local seasons also require a minimum number of tines on the stag and set shorter shooting hours.
  4. Fallow deer have local seasons in many areas (Bornholm, Fyn, parts of Jutland, several islands), some closed for does or large bucks. The dates shown are the general national ones; check the area map of your hunting ground.
  5. Roe buck may be shot 16 May to 15 July and 1 October to 31 January; does and kids 1 October to 31 January. Some islands have shorter seasons (e.g. Sejerø, Ærø, Als, Lyø, Endelave), and roe deer are closed on Mandø.
  6. Boar are shot 1 September to 31 January; sows and piglets from 1 October. Wild boar damage may additionally be regulated all year under the separate Vildtskade order.
  7. No fox season on Bornholm. Foxes may also be regulated outside the season under the Vildtskade order, subject to its conditions.
  8. The hare season ends 15 January in Region Nordjylland, Region Midtjylland (except Endelave) and Region Syddanmark west of Lillebælt (except Als and Kegnæs). Some islands have their own dates (Sejerø, Fejø, Femø, Als: shorter; Strynø and Endelave: closed).
  9. Ducks may in addition be hunted 1 to 31 January on the fishing territory (sea). The right to hunt ducks, waders and coots cannot be leased for less than one year, except woodcock.
  10. Eider drake only; closed in the listed bird protection areas where eider is a designation species.
  11. Greylag and Canada goose may additionally be hunted 1 to 31 August on arable land and field margins, but not within 300 m of the coast or fjord, or of lakes larger than 3 ha. Extra regulation of geese on fields in February needs a permit under the Vildtskade order.
  12. Bean goose has no open season, except 1 September to 30 November in Vordingborg, Guldborgsund and Lolland municipalities. Brent goose is protected.
  13. Grey partridge: 16 September to 15 October in Region Syddanmark (except Mandø), Midtjylland and Nordjylland; 1 to 31 October on Bornholm; 1 to 15 October on Sejerø; closed on Femø, Mandø and Endelave.
  14. Several islands set separate pheasant seasons, often different for hens and cocks (Sejerø, Fejø, Femø, Strynø, Als and Kegnæs). Check the local season before hunting on an island.
  15. Woodcock: 1 November to 31 December on Als and Kegnæs. Herring gull: 1 November to 31 January in the Copenhagen area municipalities, in the southern Sjælland municipalities, and on Bornholm.
  16. Egyptian goose, muskrat, nutria, raccoon dog, raccoon and mink are invasive species that may be regulated all year under the Vildtskade order; the hunting season shown is the one in the hunting-time order.
  17. Wood pigeon season starts 11 November. Wildlife Council advice from January 2026 (start 1 October, flocks of more than five only) has not been adopted.
  18. Rook, raven, jackdaw and great cormorant have no hunting season; damage regulation of rook and cormorant is possible only with a permit from Naturstyrelsen under the Vildtskade order.
